The name “Yenisi” is derived from the Ancient Greek word “παλιγγενεσία” which is transliterated as “paliggenesia” which means "rebirth" or “regeneration.” Paliggenesia can be seen twice in the New Testament. The first occurrence is when Jesus is speaking to his disciples in the nineteenth chapter of Matthew’s gospel.
The context of the text begins as a young man approaches Jesus to ask him, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?” (Matthew 19:16)
Jesus responds that he must follow the commandments, such as “Honor your father and mother: and, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 19:19).
The rich young ruler, responded, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking? (Matthew 19: 20)
“Jesus, responded, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” (Matthew 19:21)
After hearing this the rich young man went away sad because he had great possessions. (Matthew 19:22)
Naturally, after hearing this Peter, one of the 12 disciples, had to ask Jesus, “Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?”
Peter’s asking was prompted by the fact that culturally in biblical times, the rich were high in society, and of naturally thinking, they surely would be the ones to be saved before the poor.
Jesus responded to Peter, “And Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve throne, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
Meaning, that through the disciples taking up their cross to follow Jesus, leaving riches, wealth, and worldly treasures, they will enjoy the “paliggenesia” or regeneration, and they will reign with Christ in His Kingdom.
Which, is the same for all of us. When we choose Jesus, we do not lose. In fact we gain life eternally, which is what the rich man was searching for.
Jesus is the only way.
